Project Brief

The objective of this project is to develop and launch Splitmate – The One‑Tap Bill Splitter, a streamlined mobile application designed to simplify the way users manage shared expenses. Whether it’s dining out with friends, group travel, or house‑mate utilities, the app offers a frictionless experience for dividing bills, tracking who owes what, and settling payments quickly. The goal is to deliver a clean, user‑friendly interface that supports one‑tap operations, transparent tracking, and easy reconciliation — all while ensuring security, performance and scalability.

Our Approach

We began with in‑depth user research to understand the pain points of bill splitting: manual calculations, forgotten entries, uneven shares, and mess in follow‑ups. From this we defined key flows: one‑tap bill creation, auto‑division of expenses based on customizable splits, and instant notifications to group members. The design phase prioritised intuitive UX: minimal screens, clearly labelled actions, immediate feedback and data persistence across sessions.

 

For development, we selected a technology stack that supports real‑time updates, offline resilience and secure transaction logging. We then conducted iterative testing (prototype → user‑feedback → refinement) to validate the experience on both mobile and tablet. Finally, our launch plan includes analytics instrumentation for usage tracking, a phased rollout and continuous improvement based on data‑driven insights.

We delivered a lightweight yet powerful bill‑splitting application that allows users to create a bill in one tap, choose group members, apply custom split rules (equal, percentage, item‑based), and instantly notify participants. All participants can view their owed amount, accept or decline, and settle via linked payment options or external methods. The interface supports both light and dark modes, ensuring visual comfort. The data is stored securely and synced across devices so users can pick up where they left off without losing context. Built with modular architecture, the app is prepared for future enhancements — such as recurring bills, expense analytics, real‑time chat within groups and integration with payment gateways. In sum, the solution empowers groups to manage shared finances with clarity, fairness and minimal effort.
